My Story

I was 12 years old the first time I went to therapy. My parents had deemed my poetry dark and troubling after I bravely and proudly submitted a poem for review in a school contest. It was not only rejected, but my parents were contacted out of concern. In response, they tried to ask me about my intentions: Was I depressed? Suicidal? Self-harming?

My parents' questions felt like a betrayal.

Because, in fact, I was none of the above. I was writing about pain—the worry and pain in my body that had been silenced by my mind. I was writing about the crushing weight of my body growing and expanding when I wanted it to stay small. Through poetry, I tried to speak for the parts of me that were young and injured and afraid.

It was this early curiosity about the human condition that led me to study psychology in college. I loved the topic, so went on to graduate school to become a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC). As a community therapist, I specialized in domestic violence and sexual assault, running a shelter for survivors, facilitating a hospital-based advocacy program, and assisting kids in foster care process trauma.

In 2010, I opened a private practice where I shifted my focus first to anxiety disorders, and then, more specifically, to OCD. â€‹I ran the practice until 2018 when I was diagnosed with Epstein Barr Syndrome and went through a divorce. In need of rest and recovery, I decided to relocate to Maine, officially taking a sabbatical during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After a restorative break, I returned to work in 2024 to offer mentorship and coaching services for teens and young adults struggling with ADHD, anxiety, and/or executive dysfunction. Much like I needed as a teen, desiring to give a voice to changes and new, unfamiliar dreams, my services are here to offer insight and direction.

In my journey, I have been coached by many amazing teachers, therapists, and friends who guided me to accept myself as both whole and in pieces, healed and healing, perfect and flawed. Understanding myself in the context of duality informs my work today, and helps me create a non-judgmental space, accepting of who you are and where you are in your own journey. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Reach out about your goals. Let's see if we're a good fit to get you where you want to go!
